Default controlling boost spike

So what's the best boost controller or "backyard mod" to control boost spike? I was looking at the Greddy Type-S controller.

I added a turbosmart controller that is gated, that helped a little. Running more boost solved the rest. I have turbonetics evolution wastegate. I think it is too small, but running higher boost means it has to let less volume through.

Are you using the snell of the turbo foryour waste gate ref.? If so you can move the ref. line to intake manifold. this helped my spike quite a bit.

I use engine vacuum for my ref point to the WG and boost regulator. That gave me worse boost spike but MUCH better throttle response. When using my compressor, it was much lower boost spike but had inconsistent boost results between gears.

I like the Greddy Type S for the high/low switching. I'm also looking at the HKS unit as well but I don't think it's got a high low. Just a turn dial to go from "stock" to 33psi. I'd hate to accidentally turn that to far, I read that its very sensitive.

Should the BOV release pressure in a shift with an automatic?

Nope. Not unless you really let off between the shifts.

You need a better gate. Probibly a bigger one to control boost spike. A boost controller will do nothing for a boost spike unless you have a crappy one on there now that is actually the cause of the boost spike.

Wouldn't an electronic boost controller be a better investment? The way the import crowd talks about them, I'm almost considering one.
