Default Clogged Cats?

Is there anyway to tell if your cats are clogged without taking them off? I have some of the metalic spun magnaflows on a 3" ory and they are welded on. I have heard of a couple of other guys that have had problems with the cats clogging on F/I set ups. The truck seems to have lost a little gas mileage and feels down on power. I am probably going to have to bite the bullet and take the y pipe off to see if I can tell if they are damaged.

Yes you would def be able to tell if you had a bad converter.. If the problem came out of know where, that would prob be a good place to start...

A trick I have seen is to weld a bung in the exhaust system, and put a schrader valve in when you want to measure back pressure and a plug when you don't.

I think Ideal is around 7psi or less, but I haven't owned to many cars with cats to bother to care.

You can tell, by looking at your boost/vacuum gauge. If you quickily rev the engine in park or neutral, and it builds positive manifold pressure, like 1psi or so, then the exhaust is plugged somewhere.

Check for excessive heat from the cat, low flow out the tail pipe, if you can shake the exhaust and listen for loose parts. How i check out cats at work. So far im 100%
