alright, this advice is coming from someone in the midst of a turbo project

RUN, there is no such thing as cheap forced induction, the minute you think you have everything your wrong

It will nickel and dime you to death, Hell i have almost $1200 in gauges alone not to mention piping and oiling system.

FI is the most expensive way to make power, you WILL Break ****

It's not if your gonna blow **** up, it's when your wallet is gonna be empty

Try searching on the Diesel turbo, there was a thread a while back about them and if I recall correctly they don't work so well for your application?

Like ZZebes said, FI costs a huge amount and if you try and go cheap today you will end up with more costs tomorrow. Not to say you cant be frugal but never cheap out on parts.

Engine swap is going to be a lot cheaper in the end.

It sounds as if you dont have much knowledge with FI kits. Im not knocking you, most guys dont.
It also sounds as if you are trying to build something on a tight budget.
If you wanted to go turbo buy the kit already made, you dont know exactly what you need and how it should be ran etc. you would run into TONS of problems if you attempted building a kit yourself.
A 6.0 heads/cam setup can get you near your goal.
But you have alot of research to do.

Here is a general idea of what your goal will cost you.
6.0 1500.00
cam 400.00
heads 1500.00
Injectors 250.00
fuel pump 120.00
misc. 400.00
boltons- 700.00
transmission 2200.00
rear end 1000.00
Tune 500.00

if you do the work yourself, minus the rearend.
your around 8500.00

I do not normally comment in these threads anymore, however the above statement is a far from the truth.

If forced induction is done PROPERLY it is not the "most expensive" way to make power. If you do your research you will find there are many options available in kit for, from turbos to superchargers. In MOST cases if you install a well engineered FI kit and LEAVE IT ALONE, you will not break parts.

Unless you are planning on doing an engine swap yourself it will not prove to be less expensive. I certainly do not see building a H/C motor making more or event he same power than FI at a lesser cost.

Before you decide to do something CUSTOM, look at your options for kits:

Turbo: Trick Performance-------------->
Supercharger: Magna Charger---------->

Obviously I would recommend the Magna Charger system over anything, but I am biased. Trick is the ONLY turbo "KIT" available that I would suggest for the home installer. Synergy has a turbo system available, however I believe you would need to ship your truck to them for the install.

Good info Derek. Price breakdown is always a + on a project. Should be for him or anyone. Plus, one must always add in misc. costs. Bound to be something a person forgets/needs or overlooks. Any changes made midway thru or upgrades you do add to more $$$. I agree totally, go w/ kit 1st time out. Learn what works before thinking custom. You can do custom after learning about FI, & put those ideas on another build or project. I like to minimize headaches myself.
