Default Caution STS moisture/rain MAF

Just a heads up for the guys running a STS rearmount and issues with moisture in the system. I have the system running in my truck for over 4 years. Lately on rainy days I started to throw a trouble code on the MAF. Truck would start up and run horrible I could see while using HP Tuners the MAF was all over the place. After looking into the issue I found the plug that goes into the MAF had corrosion inside. What I learned MAF plug area is not completely air tight. When in boost with moisture in the system a little can work it's way to the plug over a long period of time from the inside of the MAF. In my case 4 years. Took mine off cleaned and put on a small amount of dielectric grease. Cured problem. Just FYI

When i had my STS kit i had lots of rain related problems,... Till i got the snorkel kit and tucked the filter up in the fenderwell behind the splash shield.

If i still had the kit i would mount the filter in the bed.

I do have a remote location for the filter. The filter pops up in the corner of my bed. I will run out of that if it is really coming down hard. I do feel the difference between running the filter at the turbo vs. snorkel.

Yep i could tell the difference also with difference in filter location.

I say snorkel/bed for daily driving and filter right on turbo for race.

I really do miss my STS kit, lots of fun and sounded sooo good!

I have an STS kit also. And I have been playing around with the filter location also. When I bought the truck the filter was in the bed and it had a fiberglass bed cover on it. And it was sucking the filter closed because no fresh air could get in. Then I sold the bed cover and moved the filter up front where the OEM airbox was. I did this because I have to use the bed of my truck. I took the truck to get tuned and it would only make 4.5 psi with that long of an air intake and it make 333 rwhp after tuning. Then I tried to get it to make more boost by turning up the boost controler. It wouldn't make any difference it just couldn't get enough air in to make more boost. So I took the filter and put it on the turbo. Then at 10lbs it made 480 rwhp, and at 12lbs it made 504. At that point I was out of injector 96 % DC (42lbers) so we stopped. Then it broke the built 4l60 so a built 80e is going in.
So I will be taking the air filter from the front of the truck and running it up into the fenderwell and hoping it doesn't get to wet. And when I go to the track just put the filter on the turbo. Because running it on the turbo makes a huge difference.

I went Speed Density and never had a problem with water/moisture.

Yes going SD would take care of this issue also.
