Can't get Radix Pulley off!
#1
Can't get Radix Pulley off! Just recently installed the blower and have gotten used to the 3.3, so I got a 2.9. Three different people and myself have tried to get this off, but we cannot keep the pulley from spinning. Keep in mind that one of these people has a lot of experience taking these things on and off...he is scratching his head too. I am starting to think that little white paint mark they put on the bolt got some gorilla glue mixed in with it.
Anybody ever ran into this?

DO NOT USE AIR TOOLS ON THE PULLEY NOT. REMEMBER, ONCE YOU PULL THE PULLEY OFF YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID.

do you have the nut off? If not you will need a belt wrench to hold the pulley while you loosen the nut. More than likely you will need a 3 jaw puller to get the pulley off of the shaft. You better start thinking of a tune as well.

45 foot pounds. You need to get a better grip with the belt wrench.

...But not on the Radix. Brian (I think) showed us a pic of the innards once and there is a plastic clutch assembly which will be shattered if air tools are used. I never could get the belt trick to work either, so here's what I did:
1: Get a 2 ft. length of metal pipe and attach about 2 ft. or so of stout cord to one end (clothesline will work). Be sure it is firmly attached and can't come off.
2: Bend the free end of the cord into a U-shape and tape it to the belt surface of the pulley with a piece of masking tape.
3: Wrap the cord around the pulley such that turning the shaft counter-clockwise (i.e. loosening the nut) wraps the cord around the pulley. Ensure that the cord wraps around the pulley about 6 times or so, and that it overlaps and thus tightens onto itself.
4: With the cord completely wrapped around the pulley, and using the pipe as one lever, and the wrench on the nut as another lever, push like crazy and the nut will come loose.
NOTE: Do not tie the cord to, or leverage the pipe against, a stationary part of the engine. This would put a sideways force on the shaft and could bend it.
I just did this today, putting my 3.0" on. Should have taken pics.

I have used a length of an old belt around pulleys and a large pair of channel-locks over that gripping the belt. Nothing gets better traction on a pulley without damaging it than a belt.
