BW 8374 EFR question
Building an obs with a 5.3 swap and a turbo. Looking for a quick spooling street turbo for a relatively stock 5.3. Truck will be a weekend warrior and see occasionally see the track only looking to make 500-550whp. So would like to hear opinions on the 8374efr with a.92 t4 twin scroll ar. Trans will most likely be a t56.

I’m got the opportunity to pick one up used for cheaper. The the turbo includes a built in bov and is internally gated which saves on fabrication and also adds to cost. Mainly concerned with the size. It’s a 62mm inducer and would hate to spend the money and undersize the turbo. Looking for a fast spooling street turbo.

That is a badass turbo! Damn dude! That thing is bitchen!
Youre hp levels are on its low side, room to grow?
How are you going to control its boost solinoid?
i say DO IT!
Ti blade, dbl ceramic bearings, oil and water cooled. **** yess!
on a .92 twin it will spoool like a beast!

Too much money, too small of a turbo for a 5.3. You are spending your money in the wrong areas.
Get a VSR 7875, BOV, and WG. Make all the power you want and more if you want to push it. And still not spend as much. FYI look up New Era Performance twin turbo system......they used 2 EFR turbos. Not sure which size. For a single turbo to be effective on these engines you would have to get one of the 2 or 3 largest EFRs. Even they are what, 67-69mm compressor inducer?
I think you will be much better served to get either get the 7875 or a cast T4 S475.

Also that turbine wheel inlet or outer diameter is only 74mm. These engines are choked a bit with a 75mm OUTLET or inner diameter turbine. It is just not a great match. That turbo is more suited to a 25-30psi, 8,000rpm 2.0-3.0 Liter.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on turbo sizing and it seems everyone is right. The 8374 just isn’t enough for. 5.3. It’s a shame because I could pick it up for a good price. I’m leaning towards the s369sxe now as it seems to preform well and give the spool I want. Thanks for the advice guys.
