Default boosted 406 cam

Guys ive been all over the FSC forums but never came over here for performance until now. Im building a old school sbc 400 .030 over with AFR 210 heads and a victor EFI multiport intake to go into my '94 Z71. My plan is to run an intercooled D1SC system around 12psi of boost. Im just lost when it comes to cams. When picking out a cam for boosted applications what is best to look for? More duration? Bigger LSA? Anybody got a good cam suggestion for Gen I small blocks?

HYD or SLD RR? I would recommend a SLD RR as you will need a rev kit If you want the HYD RR to rev past 6500 with the heavy retro lifters. The Gen 1's 406's tend to like more cam than the LSX engines.

Custom ISKY 242/250@.050'', .611''/.611'',(1.6: rocker) 114 LSA would be my pick. It's a HYD RR profile but can also run SLD RR lifters at .008''/and .010'' lash.

If you are afraid of that there is a 230/242 @.050'', .594''/.602''(1.65 rocker), 115LSA

Well since it'll still be a DD Id like to stick with a HYD roller. Like you said these motors like more cam because N/A a 406 will eat up a big cam very easily..... Im trying to come up with some specs or pointers for a cam right now.

Either of those two cams would be good HYD RR. If you run a rev kit with the Isky morel lifters you will be good past 6500RPM. I would stay at or below 6500 without a rev kit. If you run a bowtie or that new Dart SHP block you can use late modle GM style ISKY/moral lifters and it will have the same valve control as a LSX.

They just don't have all the advertising hype that some of the other companies have. I've been running them for years, and had very few problems with there stuff.
