Boost my 14 GMC
#1
Ok I'm seriously considering moving ahead with a charger. I am partial to a turbo but don't want any maintenance on this truck and I like the low end of a waffle iron. Not thinking a Procharger has enough low end and so many have belt slip issues I don't think I'm interested, although a D1 would be powerful. Also its my daily and I simply don't have time for any breakdowns. I make my living in this truck. My normal driving is below 3500 rpm, mostly below 3000 rpm with an occasional romp (and track). I have the Colorado as a backup driver but with parts being so expensive for a few more years on these DI trucks I am not taking any chances to get a few more hp. I don't want a converter, I've got the 6l80E. I probably wont even do headers. I've ran E85 since it was new and I would like to continue. Called Whipple and Magnuson today and they are the same price for the 2900 Vs 2300. The Whipple has a canned tune and comes with everything. The Mag is a tuner kit and is not emissions legal on my truck (probably not an issue in TX). Thoughts?

It's a lot of blower for the 5.3, and the twin screw blowers tend to be lazier than the TVS do to begin with. Spinning it so slow wont help.
That being said I think the whipple kit looks better on the new trucks and it sounds like a more complete kit.

I do like the Whipple but I know I will give up a bit of low end torque. Hoping the 6 spd helps in that regard. It stalls at 2300 right now. Ideally the 1900 is probably a good choice but I'm thinking down the road maybe a 6.2 plus the bigger blower may be easier to resell later? Another question, since we all know satisfaction is temporary, at what level of boost is belt slip a problem with the 6 rib? 10lbs? 12lbs? I wish they offered an 8 rib upgrade as it comes. I would rather start out with what I need anyway.

hard to say for you. It's a function of boost and blower RPM. You wont have belt slip issues with a stock motor at 10PSI though. No chance in hell... especially with the dinner plate you will be running on the 5.3 to make 10#. 12# on the stock motor wont be a concern either.

Good to know, one less thing I have to worry about! How difficult would the install be? Something I can do myself with basic mechanical skills and tools...I'm an AC contractor not a mechanic lol. Not scared though just cant have it down long. Or how much should I pay to have someone else do it? Thanks!

Just as a point of reference, I just got my L33 5.3L up and running with a TVS2300. Dead nuts 10psi done with a 3.4" pulley. No belt slip. I use "Gatorback" belts. Goodyear used to make them. Continental does now. Motor has mildly ported 243 heads, long tubes, and a 216/230 116+3 cam. Made 465/460 through a 4L80 on a Mustang dyno. Only ran it up to 5750 rpm. Power was still climbing.
