Default blow off valve

Just wondering what kind of blowoff valve you guys are using.

And do you still use the wastegate with the blowoff valve or is it removed and blocked off?

A wastegate is designed to vent exhaust gas around the turbine. In doing so, the wastegate is the mechanical device that controls the boost. A blow off valve vents boost (compressed air) to the atmosphere or back to the intake side of the turbo. A blow off valve does not controll boost at all. When you quickly let off the gas and the throttle slams shut, the compressor and turbine are still spining and forcing air into the engine. Without a blow off valve, pressure builds and it pushes back on the compressor making the angry turkey noise. With a BOV it won't do that, and it will increase the compressor/turbo's life span. IMO, both are needed but some say that with an auto tranny you don't need a BOV.

I have the Tial 11psi bov. I still get the turkey noise when lifting from boost.

I look at the bov as a safety valve. If pressure builds too high for whatever reason (stuck wg, restricted vac/boost line to wg) the bov will save the motor.

That happened last year to guy in MA. The condensation in his vac/boost line to the wg froze and the boost went out of control. The bov saved his motor.

The Greddy units work great and so do the HKS Type R for higher powered vehicles. Depending on how much boost you run you may need to run sequencial blow off valves to remove unwanted boost. If you are charged you NEED both a bov and a wastegate and they need to be tuned to your vehicle to work properly and for your stuff to last a long time. If you are running MAF than you also need to pay close attention to your placement of the bov as it can really screw with the computer systems ability to control fuel.
