My 5.3 shows 180 psi across the board, with 125K on the odometer. Your numbers are low. Try a different compression test gauge.

Im pretty sure a warm motor will make higher numbers, I was mainly looking for a dead cyl. Although this may prove I have some wear on the rings.

Your compression test is also at a altitude. You are up in the mountains, different numbers then down on the cost. Compression tests check the top ring(s) for sealing. If all cylinders are even then ALL the rings would have to be shot, not likely. Spin it up a little warranty is in place. donot put a hole in the cylinder, that voids the warranty..LOL

I think I solved my breathing problem. The hoses i have comming off the valve covers to catch can seem alittle small so I took an old oil cap, punched a 7/8 holes in the top and added a breather/filter from my pocket bike.

Do the leak down...My compression was within reason, but the leak down was what determined the ring were blown. Its a PITA, but better than guessing!

IMO, having a breather right next to the exhaust housing scares me. It is a great way to start a fire. I believe Chris has already been through that excercise. When under boost, even a healthy motor, there will be crank case pressure... in the form of oil mist. Just my $.02...

With the amount of oil I was losing before with the old motor, This doesn't make me nervous at all. I had to scrub all of my hot pipes with brake kleen and scotch bright before it went back on. Everytime i came to a stop smoke would come out from under the truck. LOL
