Default Blast from the past

I recently picked up a BBC Spearco turbo kit in the original packaging. It uses a Rajay turbo with no wastegate. Has anyone ever used one of these kits? What kind of power did they make on big blocks? The kit comes with a thick passenger side manifold that creates a set-up similar to the modern single front mount truck kits. The kit is at least 15 years old, probably older. Comments are welcome

if its 15 years old i would really look into getting new gaskets and filters and maybe even seeing if the turbo bearings are still good

you got a big block to put it on ?

I actually don't have a big block, I just aquired the kit from a friend who wasn't going to use it. The manifold is probably 30 lbs, it is 1/2" thick everywhere. If I were going to use the kit, I would add a wastegate. I wonder if these kits were intended to be used without wastegates?

Isn't it a draw through design? If so, I don't think it "needs" a wastegate. That's a cool piece though.

I'm sure it for a carburated application...I'm no turbo expert but I know with a carb it's a little different especially if it's a blow through. That would be pretty awesome on my 70 El camino hint hint. You can't use it in California anyway with your strict emssions and all. BTW EVERYTHING for a big block is heavy, and I'm sure the turbo will more than make up for the 30 lbs the manifold weighs. Later

Good catch, I was wondering what the two different carb elbows were for. There is also a 5/16" hole drilled through the turbine housing between the inlet and outlet, maybe that's the wastegate

Is your El Camino a 396 SS? I wonder what the potential of this kit is. From the size of the turbo, I don't think you would get more than 400 hp, but I am curious. I would prefer to add an intercooler also. It would definetly look vintage correct under your hood.

No gate might be do to the turbo being so small. A draw throu system from what C&S specialties tells me is much harder to dial in and get set up right. They have a problem with what he called a run away out of controll on the fueling side of things.
The old Pontiacs where draw throu system I beleive.
Cool find, that is worth hanging on to and hanging up in the shop if you are not going to use it.
Heck the manifolds are should pull a pretty coin to the right person.
