For some reason my truck wants to be a diesel. Over the past few months my truck has started to blow smoke on high boost (13-15psi). At first I thought it was oil smoke from a leaky seal in the turbo but I had my girlfriend follow me yesterday and she said it was solid black. My A/F looks good and it seems to pull strong. The smoke mostly clears up if I do a few pulls back to back and doesn't smoke at all on low boost. I am speed density so it can't be but so many things. My two guesses would be a sticking injector or bad plugs. Could anything else cause this.

It actually looks like a diesel truck when I first get on it. I can barely see the cars behind me for a few seconds.

 

Whats yout AFR?
And have you thought bout checkin it with another O2?
What Plugs?
Maybe its not burning all the fuel from a weak spark or plugs acting up

You would think if it was that rich the AFR would reflect it or it would bog.

 

AFR is right around 11.5.
I have another wideband but I haven't had time to put it in and check it. I think the wideband is right though since it is still pulling really strong.
I am wondering if one injector is sticking open a little making one cylinder smoke without affecting my AFR much.

The plugs are old but you would think it would bog really bad if they were causing it. At that boost level I guess it is possible for it to still feel pretty strong with a little bit of a bog. I'm going to try plugs first and then send off my injectors if that doesn't help.

 

Pull the plugs and take a look at them, should tell you what cylinder is having issues.

 

The part that it seems to go away after back to back runs makes me believe it could be blowby oil pooling in the intake manifold somewhere. Are you running a catch can?

 

It could be an injector. But you would think it would do it all the time.
If one injector is acting up making it run rich. It will set a/f for what you called for. The thing is it's a collective calculation. You can have 1 cyl stupid rich the others pulled back to make the a/f read correctly.
Blue is oil.
Black is fuel.
Plus oil has an oily smell when smoking.
Interested in seeing what the result is.
