And congrads, you will definately love FI.
Im new at the performance world and i did my homework for a good 6 months after i got the truck. i search everywhere and read alot. The sts is a great turbo but i have a homeboy who has it and it leaks often. My main goal is to do good times on the 1/4 track. With the s/c i will get instant boost and with turbo i will have to wait till i hit some rpms. even tho i heard a turbo gets way better top speed.(which i would love to have too) but u win some u lose some. Sorry if im incorrect about anything and correct me. tankz

I was wondering if you chose the Vortec over the other supercharger systems for any particlular, specific reason? What does the Vortec offer that the other's didn't?

I wanted a contrifugal s/c. on almost all my research i i found ou that its the best because they are small, lightweight and attach to the front of the engine instead of the top. As far as Vortch over any other contrifugal s/c i picked Vortech i think i will get the best for the buck, its a complete kit and the 3 year warranty can beat that

I hate to burst your bubble, but centrifugal do not build boost instantly. I just did a lt1 TA with a procharger. The car didn't start to build boost till about 3200 and made boost as the rpms go up and not reach full boost (8psi) till right at the shift at 5500 (rev limiter set to 5600). A centrifugal at 8 psi, I would compare overall performance to a turbo at 4-5 psi. You have more area under the curve with a turbo. Once you load the motor it builds FULL boost and carries it until you let off the gas. You might make similar peak number per lbs of boost, but the average power over the rpm band will be lower with a centrifugal.

You get instant boost out of POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT superchargers like the Radix or Whipple not centrifugal superchargers (basically belt driven turbos)

I wasn't trying to bash you in any way, just pointing out a few thing. Your truck will be much more fun to drive with the blower, congrats

Did you do the Vortech install yet? Just curious how you liked it..

Everyone on this board seems to bash centrifugals, but I've always had great luck with them. I just sold a '94 Lightning with a Powerdyne that ran 12.60s at 106mph on 7lbs of boost.

I recently bought a '96 Z-71 ext-cab as a daily driver and it has a Vortech S-Trim on it. It's just the base kit and only make 6-7lbs of boost, but makes really good power and these head units will make lots of boost on a street rig if you pulley them up a bit.

I'm actually thinking about selling the blower kit off my Z-71 just because I don't need it on a 4 wheel drive. If it was a reg cab 2wd, I'd NEVER part with this blower.

Anyway, hope you like yours as much as I like mine. Also, FWIW, there are a bunch of Gen1 (93-95) Lightning guys running 12's and 11's with Vortech blowers so don't let anyone discourage you AT ALL. Dennis Macho (Huffentuff) has gone 11.01 at 120 all boost with an S-Trim.
