Wow, I didn't know that Whipple used the same aux injectors and piggyback computer with their 8.1L system as they do with the 4.8/5.3/6.0 systems. I'd be looking at KB as well, then.

I believe KB has an upgrade kit for the Whipple. Those two combined would be a very nice system! I also rather have gone with larger injectors and a reprogram instead of the piggyback system. Don't like cutting into the factory harness.

Yes KB does have upgrade for the "other system". On my 98 Sub w/ 454 I had
a whipple. The supercharger was great but the fuel management system was not sophisticated.. And when the electronics went bad there were no replacement parts, and Whipples solution was for me to upgrade to the new supercharger kit w/ updated electronics. They told me my two year old system was outdated. That was very helpful I thought. I was lucky I found a used fuel managment computer on ebay. I would have probably got the KB kit or custom tune if still had truck. This is one of the reasons the KB kit looks more attractive to me. I may have to be the KB guinea pig on this forum. Thanks for thr responses.

We're all guinea pigs at one time or another. It's all for a good cause.

KB said they will have intercooler ready in a month for the 8.1 but say it is not all that necessary at 6psi

Post Re: 8.1l

If I'm not mistaken the Whipple can be used on the 8.1L with no AUX Injectors or the Piggy Back Computer...Just like the 4.8L/5.3/6.0L As I have a Whipple here that I bought used and was used for a 5.3L with upgraded Injectors Along with a custom Comp Tune...Hope this helps for what it is worth

I'm gonna get one too. You have to send in your PCM first and then they reflash it and send back w/ bigger injectors and thenthey build the SC takes about two weeks. So a couple of days down time without PCM. You can run truck w/ bigger injectors and reproram without SC.

A few guys who run Whipple kit's on the 8.1 have ditched the Whipple piggyback and installed bigger injectors along with custom tuning. They said this is the way to go when using the Whipple. Whipple now offers a hand held programmer for their kits that supposidly clears up all the troubles with the piggy+PCM and offers control over torque managment.

It might come down to cost and complexity, the superchargers are very similar.
