Default Anyone tow heavy with a turbo?

Im thinking of selling my Dmax, and using my soon to be turbod 03 RC 4x4 as my primary vehical. It will have a mild built 6.0l, 4l80E, a trick Front mount, with a T66, and a Nelson air to air IC. I need to be able to tow at least 8000LBS through the mountians of utah, and colorado, with reliability. I was thinking about running the boost down around 3-4 PSI when towing. I am going to set the CR around 8.5 - 8.75:1. Cam will be 217@.050/.549'' on a 115LS.

Yeah I think you'll be fine. I think the biggest thing that hurt me was the stall. Thats where my tranny temps got warm. But remember, This was in hot summer heat and stop and go traffic with AC cranking. I dropped my boost down to 6 psi when I was towing. I think as long as you run low boost, tight stall, good cool air to pull in you should be fine. I think meth might help as well.

If you really want to tow 8,000 pounds through the mountains and have better than average performance by having forced induction, I'd just recommend that you keep and perhaps do some mods to your Duramax. My son is running a Duramax/Allison HD K2500 with a chip only and it is built stouter than my Stroker Yukon XL will be as far as the block and the trannie. Also, there is the real consideration of fuel costs. I currently tow an 8,600 pound trailer and I may consider a Magnacharger in the future, but probably not.



I work for an aircraft manufacturer and I used to be a flight instructor in single and multi-engine turbocharged airplanes. I can tell you that long-term durability of engines used in heavy duty applications have durability issues that are significant. The Duramax on the otherhand is designed as a turbocharged/intercooled engine from the start.

Yeah but his diesel is a $40,000 truck and I think he would like to probably lose that payment and just tow with his new turbo truck for alot less money.
