Default Anyone mix xylene with their gas?

I read somewhere that mixing 2 quarts of xylene with 4 gallons of 91 octane gas gives you 100 octane. Not sure if their is any bad side effects such as corrosion, is just wondering if anyone has tried it

Your gas has small amounts of Xylene in it, depending on the blend. Summer blend has less because the warm weather increases the vapor pressure enough to get an ignitable mixture on cold start-up.

It is highly volatile and carcinogenic....But its also has about a 117-118 octane rating.

I don't remember where I got the below info but it seems good.

Xylene
R+M/2...117
Cost...$2.75/gal
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...94.5 Octane
20%...97.0 Octane
30%...99.5 Octane
Notes: Similar to Toulene. 12-16 ounces will only raise octane 2-3 *points*, I.e. from 92 to 92.3. Usually mixed with Toulene and advertised as *race formula*.

Back in the 90's, we used to play around with both of those with my two Typhoons. Definitely adds to the octane rating, but it was too much of a hassle. Not too good on paint either....

I recently learned that it will deteriorate fuel line over time also... It's safer to just get unleaded race fuel. Plus it smells delicious.

E85 is cheaper and won't hurt anything as long as your fuel system can support it.

Mark you have this stuff all over down there, I'd just run it. I'm running about a 25% mix when I go to the track and really makes a difference on how much timing I can run. Currently 22* on 13psi.

It must be really responsive with that much timing. We only have one E85 pump in my county (east side of the SF Bay Area) or I'd have a 35 gallon tank in my bed in a heartbeat.
