Are we talking about installing the seal or reinstalling the crank pulley?

Both, actually. I plan on installing the seal using a flat block of wood. After cover goes on, the crank pulley will be the big concern. the crank pulley is prolly what I'm more concerned about.

both.
sorry Tom was on the other line when you called.
I heat up my balancer...gets it on enuff to use the old bolt to get it the rest of the way.
The seal is surposed to be replaced each time you pull the cover to keep it centered on the crank, shitty place to get a leak.

so the pounch list is:
Harmonic balancer
front cover
what else...it will help to have all the jobs listed, now is not the time to forget something and when you spread these projects around it gets hard to remember all the details.

And Tom scrwew all your tools, I just scored a plsma cutter!

Yes, I've a new seal. I didn't wanna chance a leak, then tear it all the way down to this point again.

Well I never got my springs finished, so that should happen today. I figure I can button up the tim'g cover, & then turn crank every 90 to help w/. rocker arm install, yes? Or leave off til rockers are done too? Just tryin to do the fastest, & best approach. I hope they're the same.

Joe, throw a pic & what brand / specs of that plasma cutter up on my visitor messages (u know how full I keep my PM box by now, don't you?)
Nice score. It's on my dream list when I get my own place w/. garage.

Blue, are you going to try and mod the Vararam to work with the Maggie when you get around to installing it?

I'm looking for a CAI to hook to a TVS 2300 on a 2009 6.0 Avalanche, and I really like the looks of the Vararam, I'm just not sure about fitment.

Well, I never got workin on truck the other day. I did today tho. Springs are done!!!

I learned a valuable lesson. I wish I didn't wait til the last pr. or 2 pairs of springs to do it tho. I had a nightmare w/. these springs. The spring tool works sweet. I can actually undo a spark plug, put in air hold & attach to compressed air, remove the keepers, springs, change out the 1pc. seat/seal, install my 918's & dstock retainers, & tighten spring tool back down in a decent fashion.

That's where I dread spring change. Not havin done this before, I was leary to put a dab of grease inside keepers. I thought it might end up inside motor. But it's so minute, & u can wipe off most excess. I shoulda listened to the wise Texan.

I will not make this mistake again (not using a dab of grease).

Oh ya, more humor for u guys. Not too funny to me at the time, but it is now.
I was down to my last cyl. (which was #3). It was near the end of the job, & I wanted to head in for bed. I wasn't paying attn., & took my keepers off, removed spring tool, & then I noticed the blue stripe from my 918 springs... on a cylinder #1. Oops, I'd already done that one. Dought!

Tomorrow, I can throw the new 7.4" pushrods in. That's the easiest mod I've done to date. When I throw the rocker girdle on, do I gotta do each cylinder @ TDC, then rotate 90*, then repeat til done?

Can't see it makin a difference, cause it's a rigid factory girdle. I just figured go from inside-out or outside working in, to tighten it. Correct me if I'm wrong. I figure if they were separate, then the TDC method would apply.

Also, if I decide to run the Comp 1.75 rockers, do u retain that girdle?

I figured do all the rockers then work on the bottm stuff. (stock or if I decide to run the 1.75s), but the 1.75 Comps require a tad of work to run w/. stock valve covers. I considered havin those powdered, but how much will I really see after all the coils & hardware go on?

At this point, I'm most concerned w/. getting timing cover seal R&R'd, free of leaks & centered. Getting balancer on, timing cover & pan centered, again no leaks.

After that, I'll be feeling a lot better.

The Crane 1.8's don't use the girdle. I'm not sure about the Comps. Check with their tech dept if you don't have the instruction manual. Might even find a pdf install manual on their website.

As for your front cover, it has dowel pins to line it up. Some will say you need to install the crank pulley to center it up first, but that's b.s. The dowel pins align it properly. Unless your block has had the main journals re-ground, you're good to go.
