I had a tvs1900, then a 88mm turbo to a 82mm turbo, and now back to a whipple 2.3 with aspirations of a 3.4 or 4.0 whipple.

The tvs was too small for my 408, but it was a blast to drive as a daily. I wanted more power so went turbo and George is right in that the top end pull of a turbo will never be matched by a blower. Its really quite a thrill, but the upkeep and maintenance on a high-hp turbo build is a lot, much better suited to a more race oriented setup. The blower is a ton of fun to drive around with and will outrun 99% of the cars you come across on the street.

Such good info. I've got a Trick kit all layed out on the bench, a truck torn down to the shortblock, and the 862's at the machine shop getting a valve job and a surface. I hadn't considered a blower until I see veteran pt members making the switch so I start researching more. Seems like the higher upfront cost and the mystique of a turbo truck has a lot of guys overlooking the blowers? Then I realize that just about every supporting part I have besides the turbo kit itself can be used with a tvs and I start scratching my head a little...my brains been racing all weekend on what I want to do lol.

Here's my rationale...if it's a DD, get the blower. If it's a toy or weekend racer get the turbo. For all out power, get the turbo.

I suppose I'll play devil's advocate on both fronts... Both types of FI have their places, but you have to build your setup to make the most out of each. Blowers can make absolutely nasty power if you don't half-*** everything else in the build. Blowers are harder to make big power with, but at the end of the day the fastest accelerating internal combustion vehicle has a big roots blower sitting on top of it... As for reliability, I've run some high horsepower turbo setups and haven't had any concern about the reliability of the turbo system itself. Several cross country trips and the turbo-related modifications were the least of my worries.

I think blowers got a bad wrap with the 112 radix kits when people tried to push them. With the newer TVS style blowers i dont read about high IATs anymore. I dont believe blowers are more expensive startup costs thou than the typical turbo setup.

Another potential advantage for blowers in general is the ability to keep full oe emissions in place if need be

Actually that is a good point and one of the reasons i swapped. I can pull into anywhere and get my truck inspected. Before i was always worried they would question the modifications.

I actually considered this as well. The Maggie's all have CARB eo #'s so there's no hoops to jump through every 2 years. CA doesn't do "smog" tests anymore in the traditional sense only a very loose visual and obd2 scan.
