Well I have blown my T76. Anyone have an idea as to what might have caused this.
I went out to log a few runs, before going to the dyno, and after the 2nd run I was engulfed in a huge cloud of smoke, at first I thought I nipped a piston, but turnes out it was the turbo. I was running 15~17PSI, with 11.5AFR. Good oil flow, and drain back seems to be good. So this must have been caused by overspeed, or egt. The exhaughst side is completly burnt, but the intake side looks ok. The turbo is a Turbonetics T76 .96AR journal bearing that has less than 500miles on it. I bought the turbo new last year for another project. It did not come in my trick kit so there is no warranty.

That's a tough one. You shouldn't be over-speeding that turbo on a 6l, it's a pretty big compressor. High EGT's usually eat the turbine wheel, cuz it get the blades so hot that they loose there structural integrity and the centrifugal forces blow the tips of the blades off. Just looks like you had bearing failure. But that doesn't make too much since since you should have had adequate oil flow. Hummm... might have to chalk this up to a random failure. Are you gonna have it repaired or gonna get a new one? It you want a new one, PM me I know a guy who can hook you up on a Precision.

Just looks like a failure. There was no intercooler pipes off that might of overspun the turbo? Another thought is maybe the truck was shut off before the turbo cooled before, that can hurt the bearings if you beat it bad then shut it off without cooling but I wouldn't expect for it to die so quickly..
