6.2 Denali questions/prep
#1
havent been on here in a while.... last truck was just an obs with a mildly built vortec engine... this was/is the build i always wanted, 6.2 awd denali - even though the front ends are hideous
TL.DR. for the next couple paragraphs - has a brand new engine replaced under warranty
Little back story of current truck - Bought a 2012 yukon denali awd 6.2, from a toyota dealership few months ago, had about 45k miles on her. Had a slight tick on cold startup for the few thousand miles; had a cheap oil filter on it and i figured the oil was the same. A nice filter and syn oil may clear it up. Turns out that wasnt the case lol after oil change sounded about 10x worse. I'm guessing they put a heavy weight oil in it to shut it up and sell it.
Truck was still under factory powertrain warranty so i bought it to gmc dealership and played dumb. They diagnosed and agreed tick was symptom of lifters. I was told they "cleaned up the top end"(?) threw it back together still sounded like crap.
So they pulled the engine out and tore it down, found a rod bearing wiped which trashed much of the engine. Ordered a new crank, bearings, and threw it back together. Called me on a friday and said tech wanted to run it for the weekend and make sure all was good, change the oil and give it back the following monday, me- sure np!
well monday rolled around, no call.... I get a call tuesday saying truck **** the bed and they ordered a brand new engine for it, me - awesome, lmk when its ready!
Sooo after it being at the dealership for the majority of ownership, I now have it back, running great... looks like they swapped out a full long block. and it's out of powertrain warranty in about 6 months.
---------------------------
I'm going to put a few thousand miles on it and make sure it all stays together. In the mean time i wanted to start gathering parts and doing any prep work to get ready for some low(6-8lbs) boost- from what ive read i could probably get away with doing nothing. I'm sure everything i mention definitely wouldnt hurt to do but the plan is to get a reliable 500-550hp out of it with 93+meth and leave it be.
the obvious and minimum is to delete the DOD at that time should I - throw in head studs?, head gasket?, look into swapping cams? valve springs?
still havent been able to find much info on tuners working with the VVT - i would like to keep it

little delay but i went a little overboard with deleting the DOD, lol. Plan was for a turbo, but the simplicity of the PD blowers is so attractive. I've gathered about all the parts i need to delete the DOD and will probably just keep an eye out for a nice used whipple or magnacharger to pop up for sale to grab in the future.
Starting out, DOD delete is including:
218/228 .600/.600 113 VVT cam
1219x springs, will prob end up with hardened pushrods
ls3 hollow valves
long tube headers/ no cat ypipe
circle d 3k converter 278mm (was going to do 254mm single/multi disk but they said 278mm would have better part throttle characteristics) ,40k cooler, going to flush and replace filter
black bear tuning
