Default 4" Exhaust Drone

I have a full 4" exhaust and the droning is pretty bad. If I was to keep the 4" down pipe and split it to two 3" with small case magnaflow mufflers would there be any droning sound? Thanks

Odds are yes there would be, but you can eliminate that. Its nearly impossible to predict what will and will not drone based on what you are telling us.

Before you change your entire exhaust set up I would probably try a resonator tube. Helmholz resonator I think is the proper term.

Is the exhaust too loud outside of its drone?

It does have a resonator tube on a large magnaflow muffler. Its not too loud, but the drone makes it bad.

Try playing with the length of the resonator tube first. I have 4" split to 2, 3" duels and Magnaflow offset outlet mufflers and still had to put 30" resonators on both to kill most of the drone.

I might try to play with the resonator tube length some before going through all the trouble of switching to two 3" mufflers. Thanks for the reply.

Where does it dump? My 4 inch out the back was so pleasant to drive, but dumped it was pretty wicked on your ears.

It dumps under the truck. I do have the last bit of the exhaust that would exit out out the stock location. I did not think that would make that big of a difference, but worth a try.

It makes a huge difference. I can't believe no one asked that before...

Finish the pipe out the back and play with the length of the resonator tube... you'll be happy with the results.

I went thru this with my 3 inch duals. Up front after the headers i had 4 inch round x14 bullets then big magnaflow mufflers and dumps. It was stupid loud and droned really bad. I changed the front bullets to a set of 6 inch round x21 mufflers and added full tail pipes. The drone is gone and it sounds alot better.
