under load the pulleys deflect and cause the belt to come off. I saw it time and time again on leftcoast32's TBSS......and Grippy had problems with them as well.

It could be the Metco's. I have heard of them not sitting flush also. I have also seen a couple of times where someone put their blower pulley on backward. No matter what you do, don't go hitting it then letting up. You will throw a belt most very easily.

The first time i threw the belt was when i got on and off it. The next three times were when I got on it hard and as it went up through the gears is when it came off

Make sure to check all of your pullies to see if they are aligned. Check the tensioner to make sure that it is also putting proper tension on the belt. Is your crank pinned yet?

I pinned the crank from day one. I'm gonna take a closer look at all the pullies to make sure they are all in the same plane.. especially the metco pullies, snout pulley, and tensioner.

The way the tensioner sits normally is about 80% compressed so I would think it has about as much tension on the belt as it can.

What is the opinion about gatorback vs gates belts? Does one tend to grab better or jump more easily?

When we tried the Metco Pulley's they were tight when grabbing them also. Then while under a load on the dyno they would start a high speed wobble (I was watching them). The belt would then be thrown off. We went with some custom shouldered pulley's and have not had the issue since.

Someplace, sometime I said the metcos were garbage Take em off and use a dayco idler just to see if it fixes the problem. The metcos do not provide ANY more belt wrap as some may think.
