Torque management, breh. No TM might work for the lower power guys... I leave all of it in my tune. lol

So you would then definitely recommend to leave all TM when tuned?

Also, would me going turbo over the 4.5 whipple help with low end durability?

Seems most guys going s480 on a 408 are getting full boost at around 3500 to 4250.

For a lifted truck with big tires I would want the blower. Turbo full boost depends on a lot of things, so take those numbers one way or the other with a grain of salt.

I have always had blowers in my old school lifted trucks but thats 454s and 8-71s. Different age and time.

So the consensus seems to be 4.5 whipple > s480?

For your goals with this I would definitely use the blower instead of the snail.

If you want the transmission to last for more than a season, I would. Like Atomic said, the intermediates are a huge weak point, especially under serious torque. Every stock 80e I've torn apart for a rebuild has had burned intermediate clutches. With high horsepower, it gets way worse. Leave the TM if you don't want to do trans R&R/rebuilds every 6 months.

Is there a better transmission option than the 4l80e?

Depends on your goals and setup...lot of power and lot of weight...maybe a glide or lenco, but if you really just want a number and would turn it down to 700-800hp the 80e will do you fine.
