Default 2012 Tahoe with turbo not making power—Cam issue

So I bought this 5.3 PPV truck as a turbo project and knew I was going to get rid of the dod and keep vvt to help in spooling the turbo...
I specked a 212/212 with a 115+4 Lsa and bigger springs. I upgraded the injectors to lsa Injectors and I have the flex fuel pump. The cam was to keep the vvt.
I got the truck back from shop who did the dod delete and also the cam swap.
I did the turbo install and had the truck street tuned with the stock maf/map on a 9 lb spring. Air fuel is right on point through out the rpm range and the truck drove well but something didn’t seem right. It didn’t pull like I thought it should.
I had it dyno tuned and we had issues with getting past 5000 rpm without detonation. Also it only would take 10 degrees of timing at 10-11 lbs of boost. It never made more than 385 rwhp
I suspected the cam might be the problem so I called bullet and spoke with the guy that spec the cam
for me. He never took any notes on vvt. So apparently the cam doesn’t have the provision for vvt but it’s still a single bolt cam. Also, since we thought it had vvt, we used the original stock vvt cam gear that adjusts??
Im also getting a camshaft over advanced code in the ecu
could that be the problem with my HP? Can someone explain what this will do in technical terms?

The cam is not your problem.

What size is the turbo? Sounds like lots of exhaust restriction.

Turbo is a 78/75 billet journal

I had a 2 valve ford 5.4 L that made 650 rwhp on 15 lbs with this turbo and identical exhaust. I don’t think it’s exhaust restriction unless the cam is degreed incorrectly causing the exhaust valve to be closed at the wrong time.

The cam is not a problem, but it may be installed wrong. And that turbo should do fine on that motor.

That’s my question. If the cam is not installed straight up because the cam gear has moved it, since it’s a VVt cam gear, that would cause the problems?

Yes this could be possible. Check and see where its degreed at currently. Even with it all the way retarded or advanced on the gear I would still think that it would make power. So maybe its off a tooth or something.

I’m getting it checked tomorrow and having the cam gear swapped to a single bolt non VVT gear.

I’ll update later this week

I’m betting it’s more of a tune issue.

What’s the rest of the exhaust setup?
