I have a customer who brought me his brand new pickup and is asking me for some type of forced induction. The problem that I'm running into is that I can't find anything to fit on the 4.6 liter 3-valve engine that he has. I've sent e-mails to several companies, I keep being told that they have offerings for the 5.4, but not the 4.6.

Can anybody tell me if the 4.6 and the 5.4 are from the same family? Just like the GM 4.8 & 5.3 are. I just don't know these Fords very well, yet.

Can anybody tell me what, if any, are the differences between the 4.6 that's in the Mustang & the 4.6 that's in the trucks? Is there any possibility of using & modifying a mustang kit to work on a truck?

I plan to tune(if this project moves forward) this truck with HPT.

 

The 4.6L mod motor has a shorter deck height than the 5.4L (by a little more than an inch), in order to swallow the 5.4 longer stroke and longer connecting rod. They are in the same family, but if you are looking for an "Intake Manifold" mounted supercharger, the versions for the 4.6/5.4 are different. After searching around for a while I believe I found some adapters for using a 4.6 Manifold design on a 5.4, but not the other way around. I'd look at superchargers designed for the mustang GT, as they "Should" fit, same engine save for cams and tune.

If not then look at Vortech or ATI.
