so when i change it to 1400x1050 it comes up wit something like

Input Signal out of range
Change size to 1440x900

then after so long if i dont, the monitor goes in sleep mode lol

but when its all stretched out and i hit auto adjust it says

Recommended settings: 1440x900

You May Want To Try Updating Your Vid Card Drivers, And See If Hp Offers Drivers For The Monitor On Their Website.... I Just Went Thru And Read A Few Reviews On It, And A Few People Said "your Mileage May Vary" Which Means It May Not Be The Most Rreliable, Anotherwords High Failure Rate....

Best Bet Would Be To Try Updating Drivers, See If Maybe A Driver Just Got Hosed, Or A Setting

NO WORRIES... I HAVE HAD TROUBLES WHERE I NEEDED A MONITOR DRIVER... BECAUSE 1440X900 IS A WIDESCREEN SETTING....

why such high res. its only a 19" screen. i usually run mine around 1280x960 @ 80hz. I could go way higher but there's not really much point on a 19". 60Hz makes my eyes hurt and the higher your res the less HZ your monitor can handle.
