Default Painted wheels plus winter??

Hey guys,

Help the (still) winter noob out.

What do I need to do to prep a set of fully (bolton) painted rims for winter?

What do I need to do *during* the winter to keep any salt from turning my wheels into garbage?

I'm not going to be driving in deep snow days (haha!! c5 plow!!) but will take it out on slush / paved / light snow days.

BTW, what in the hell is a "salt build up day"??

I've been told that during the winter, just hit a car was that does a wheel treatment every 2-3 weeks. Is that enough?

I have to wash my truck & wheels 1 or 2 times per week to keep it from going to hell. Once a month, take off the wheels and wash the backsides. This method has kept my chrome 20's looking good(my studded winter set is 20's) since 2003.

If there painted i would go and wax them really good and try and wash them and whole car after roads dry out, also wax em again mid way thru season if its a bad one. And only thing i can think of when i hear "salt build up day" is when they go out and start salting before a known storm is gonna come in. I get more concerned when its dry and you see the salt piles around stops or where cars dont drive, because thats straight salt/sand and not watered down like when snow is still on the ground..

Since they are painted, put a couple good coats of wax on them before the season starts, and make sure to clean them at least once per week afterwards. Winter road salt plays hell with everything, chrome wheels are the worst....last winter I had to polish my wheels around twice per month to keep them in shape.

This is why my 20's come off in the winter and the stockers/all terrains go on. But as mentioned, a few coats of wax and constant washes is about all that I know of that you can do.
