slow motion of launch
#1
I asked my friend, who video taped my run, to make a slo mo video of the launch to see how bad I spun. You can see it dead hooks off the line but when the nitrous kicks in it spins a good bit. My suspension setup is a djm 4/6 drop with flip kit and drop shocks. I made some tracion bars that are identical to caltracs. Im running 28x10/16 hoosiers with 13 psi on that run. I noticed the other day when I was looking under the truck that my pinion angle looks to be a couple degrees positive. Is that my main problem? I cut a 1.64 60' on that run. How much can I improve with setting my pinion angle and how negative do I want it? Here is the video

Pinion angle isn't helping... You actually don't want to "dead hook" with zero tirespin as strange as that sounds. You need a little bit of spin to get the RPM up quicker, you just want to be able to minimize the spin and control it. But just turning the tire over a little faster than your moving isn't a bad thing.

I thought with stick cars you want some spin but autos you want a dead hook because the converter dampens the blow on the drivetrain. And Im not in Slidell very often anymore, My parents live there but I go to Louisiana Tech, but I only have a little over a year left then I'll be back down here. Am I wrong about the spinning and hooking?

With a high stall converter yeah. A dead hook should be "ideal" but with a tighter converter ( or a manual i suppose) turning the tires over a little faster than the truck is moving will accelerate faster. It has a lot to do with your entire setup along with power levels. On a lower powered vehicle, wheel spin will help, higher power levels, it'll hurt...
Of course this is a generality, every setup will vary. And if it's being hard on parts you're worried about, don't take it to the track

definitely not worried about being hard on parts... if it breaks, ill build it better. I just going to set my pinion angle and see if that improves my 60' i want to cut a 1.5x before i do any engine work.
