Has anyone installed one of these in their 1999 to 2004 trucks ? Does it require an aftermarket computer?
I went to Holley Fest and my truck ran a couple 12.0 to 12.10. I thought it was the heat, but when i looked at the log it shifted at 3500 and 5200 rpm. Ran like a dog. I need a trans controller !!!
thx

As far as I know it's basically impossible to control a 8 speed or 10 speed computer without the factory computer and various other modules . The transmission is setup specifically to run on those torque based computers.

There's 1 or 2 companies tht supposedly make a stand alone controller for the 6l80e. Cant think of them currently.
I do alot of ls swaps and i only use the 6 speeds with a engine/wiring setup thts 2007+ they need a e38 ecu and work off of canbus. These setups also need canbus interface gauges to work correctly.
I wouldnt even want to attempt to install one in an older platform. They are a lil tricky to tune as well. Way more tables than a 60/80e.
For your setup i would go 4l80e or th400. They will last, and hold up to what ever u put to them. I dont even bother with the 4l60e trans anymore. They never hold up and cost more than they are worth.

I just ordered the US Shift controller. I contacted Performa Built and they also recommended that controller. We shall see how it goes.
