More traction on street vs. drag strip?
A poser friend of mine is all butthurt due to an arguement regarding his "12 second" Fbody thats never been on the track with him at the wheel.(poser)
Anyhow, my last set of tires, i found that they would hook on the asphault around here, but not as well on the strip. I seemed to spin right off the line at the track and could get a better launch on the street.
Anyone ever ran into this?

My trucks haven't been that fast, but it seems to me, I hook up better at the track, especially with some fresh VHT layed down.
My previous truck which ran a 14.2 (60' 2.09) would grab at the track without spinning.
But, on the street, it would leave TWO nice long black marks.

The night I got a 1.69 60' at the track, on a clean street I was spinning for 30 ft. in 4hi several times with two passengers. It was fun! Better at the track for me for sure.

I think it depends on track prep, if it is clean and a nice fresh layer of glue you should get your best launches.
First time i ran the truck stock i was spinning a little
second time just hooked, with lighter wheels, intake and exhaust
My Camaro always hooked better on the street
Track prep is a big part

The discussion actually stemmed from the OP stating that I would get worse traction at the track, when I get perfect traction on the street. This is on DR's on a mostly stock 2001 SS with an auto. I explained that I never get wheelspin on the street and wouldn't get any on a prepped track, and he argued that because he gets better launches on the street, that I would probably spin I tried to explain the difference in launching an auto and a stick as well as the consistency issues to no avail, and then resorted to insisting I'm a poser and know nothing because I've never taken it to the track.

With DR's you will hook just fine!
my Camaro had 245/50/16 street tires, that was my problem.
Also i never got to run down the track with my new LCA's which helped on the street also.
auto vs manual + truck vs fbody
they dont work the same
