GM guys lets see your 4WD drag set ups!
Looking for pics of what everyone is running as a 4WD wheel and tire combo for the Street/Strip. Post a pic of your set up and details on it! I'm pretty sure I'm going with the dark stars 17x9.5 on all 4 corners but want to see what everyone else is running first.

I've heard of clearance problems with the 9.5" wheel up front.
I run stock denali wheels with the m&h 275/50r17. 2 of the tires are more or less shot so when the time comes I'll get 2 race stars 17x9.5 and run the 325 out back. |

M&H Racemaster drag radials on Centerline billet wheels, and a little bit of suspension work. Any questions, just ask. Yes it's a 4x4. |
Wonder if I could get a different offset for the front to not rub? Do you know if they run the frame or the finder?
|
AK truck looks good! What size tires? What do you have for lowering? I want to be sitting at about that same hight.
|
275/55R16, which is a 28" tire. Wheels were 16x8.5 IIRC.
Out back, I had lowering shackles, removed block, removed overload, and CalTracs. Up front I had lowering keys, aftermarket UCA eccentrics, tie rod sleeves, and adjustable limiting straps. It was around a 3/5 drop. |

They are. Same exact ones I have on my Duramax.
|
That's awesome! What limiting straps do you have I like the idea of adjustable straps.
|
Curious on the straps myself.
|
Here's the detail on the straps. I have a set also but haven't installed yet.

I cant post a picture from work but I have slicks on 17x9s with a 28x10.5" slick. I have coilovers in the front and heim tie rods. I like my coilovers way more than with the straps; no need to constantly adjust them and the ride is way better.

Not exactly, but similar (same concept). The kit I have I think is an early model. The biggest issue is the tie rod bolt to the spindle is tapered, and finding that tapered bolt is not easy (I never found one), so I ended up drilling out the spindle for a large straight bolt.

At what point do you need anymore than a strapped front end and a ride height that allows the cv's to be flat? This is all i have as of now and i can dead hook on street tires leaving on 7psi and ramping to 18psi.
|
Also you can purchase all the stuff you need to strap the front from Summit for under a 100 bucks.TGI-111273-KIT LIMIT STRAP; 10

When you pick up the front end enough to loose traction on the front wheels and basically bounce back and forth as the fronts hook and release. Its a pretty violent experience. It will probably just spin on the street, but when it hooks on the track youll know it.

I dont think youll need a trans brake unless you already have it. My truck bucked pretty bad til I strapped the front down. I'm not making enough steam yet for cal-tracs on the rear haha.

4wd with hydroboost held my setup at 1000rwhp+
caltracs will greatly help with axle wrap and bucking |

Ok so I went out and installed a bigger wastegate spring that allows me to build more than a 7psi launch...lucky I was 1/4mile from the house because I had to drive home in 4hi. Apparently I will need traction bars to launch on 13psi, because the rear springs wrapped and busted the rear universal joint. Luckily it barely smacked the gas tank and sheared 2 caps off the joint, the ds survived. Time for cal-tracs or Smith Racecraft! LOL!!

The track manager(in my case track owner) was not impressed or happy about it. With straps & CalTracs, and drag radials, I could still have some tire spin on the launch, but it became manageable. |
Before I strapped the front it would buck a little and pull hard left. The straps fixed that problem but my truck was lazy to build boost with the 5lb spring in the gate. With the 9lb spring the boost comes on violently and this morning was the first time I have tried to launch over 8psi. I think I'm gonna go with the Assassin bars and some adjustable rear shocks
|
Bringing this back up...I got my bars put on and adjusted. Now I spin for about 20 foot and it finally hooks(street tires) LOL!! Now I need a $1200 set of drag radials. Does everyone recommend the M&H 275/50/17's ??
|
I prefer the MT ET street radials over the M&H (which tend to run small)

I used to use that size m&h, they worked pretty good! Very soft though, maybe 10k street miles tops.
