Default DR's on my 20's or go 17's?

Hey guys, looking at ordering some dr's today. I currently have 20 wheels, but i was considering throwing some stockers back on with drs to free up some weight. Would the switch to stock 17x7.5s be worth anything over just running a rear Dr on my current wheels?

Compare the weight of the tires/rim and that should be enough info to decide.

I'd just guess at around 50+ extra lbs of weight if you ran 20's.

Depends how heavy they are vs 17s. Attention: Ricer math is coming! The rule of thumb for weight loss is normally for every 100lbs lost you drop a tenth in the 1/4. However, when talking about rotational mass that number is multiplied by a factor of 4. So let's say your 20"wheels+DRs=80lbs VS 17"wheels+DRs=55lbs then you have a total loss of 100lbs which will as a rule of thumb drop your 1/4 time by 0.4secs. All that said this really comes down to what your goal is for the track or street. Are you looking for a specific track time or just looking to go as fast as possible at all times? Do you plan to run DRs all the time? Would running DRs at the track and normal street tires the rest of the time be an option? Personally I would toss some DRs on some stockers and save them fro the track, but it depends on what you are looking for.

Would a 275/50r17 be ok on stock 7.5" wheels? Or is that still too wide?

Normally 1" difference is recommended. So find out width of a 275, then go from there.

Definitely go 17s over 20s.

I cut anywhere from .1-.2 off my 1/8 mile times by going from 20s to 18s. That was when it was tune only.

Well, I scored a set of gmc 17's today. 245/70 17's for the front and ordered some 275/50 17 m&h radials for the rear. We shall see how it does when the radials come in!

Got the tires mounted/balanced and threw the setup on the truck today. I can actually launch around 2200rpms without spinning now and kick the throttle down. Truck pulls a bit stronger. I'll see what it 60 foots at the track friday night. Hopefully they prep the track good. I was losing a lil air in one of my dr's tonight. Gonna have to check the beads and valve stems when I get time.

Thats great to hear. Are you a 4x4 or just 2wd? I'd love to see some pics.

Do you plan to drive with these at all times, or mainly just at the track?
