well on a AWD set up if you have two different size diameter rims/tires it would be like having two different size gears in your rear and front diff.

BLOWN- i was more wondering if that WIDE of rim/tire would fit up front on my truck being lowered 3" ?

 

As long as the tire diameter is the same I don't see how the wheel diameter would matter.

 

FOR SURE as long as it is the same overall diameter you would be fine i would think . im not sure how difficult it would be to get the exact same size tire if you have two different widths since tire sizes are kinda weird to figure out anyway. when i had a s10 and put camaro rims on it i was running into the same problem and could get the exact same out side diameter since the rim widths were different . also i wonder if the weight of the two different sizes would effect anything ?

 

While they might not be as sexy as some of the 15" drag wheels. If you wanted to go cheap I'd just run some stock 17" wheels with one of the M and H 17" DR's on all 4 corners. Or the wheels I posted are cheap, have a good backspacing, are 9.5 inches wide, and come in 17 or 18 inch for a little bit more money. I'd run the 17" if you wanted a 28" tire and 18" if you were to go with the 29" size tire I mentioned. Either way it would be probably be a lot cheaper than some custom 15" wheels that probably won't even fit over your brakes. I think Stock48 and Atomic both have 9 sec passes on stock 17" wheels with DR's. Do I have any first had experience no but at least what I'm saying you know would fit on your truck, would be cheaper, should be able to get you the traction for a 9 sec pass with, and be a lot less possible headaches.

It looked like Black6psdz had 9's and 140+ mph in the bag until he burned up his trans, then the whole truck. His setup was more similar to yours than anything I've seen I here.

yeah his was real similar to mine but his was a 380 and mine is a 408. same converter and turbo thou i think.

 

do you guys know if the MT ET'S 305's would work on a 9.5" rim? or should i go with the 275 tire they make? they recommend a 10" wheel for the 305's .

 

While I'm not real hip on the awd stuff, I don't see why the front wheels I have wouldn't physically fit. Although as both you and I commented, the front wheel/tire combo probably needs to be the same diameter as the rear wheel/tire combo on an awd set up to avoid some weird problems.

If you go back and look at my first project thread when I did the drop and the 5 lug conversion you'll see that this narrow of a wheel with the correct backspace actually puts the wheel out far enough that the lower ball joint stud is not an issue (I'm assuming that is what you are concerned about). I did have to trim the lower ball joint stud flush with the nut to run the factory 17" wheels as the lower ball joint landed inside the wheel. With the 2" drop spindle that is the common issue you run into.

I have always run an M/T ET Front on those wheels that has a side wall designation of 27.5". My truck is very low and did not have any rubbing issues in the top of the fender, but I did have to keep the original bump stops, but did trim them so that the truck wasn't sitting on them at rest.

Just for reference, I still run the factory 2006 bumper on the truck with the little factory plastic air damn piece on the bottom. That is the lowest point on my truck and measures exactly 3" from the ground (the minimum amount allowed by NHRA so as not to **** with the beams).

 

Problem is drag tires tend to balloon a little with speed too... you start introducing completely different tires and their characteristics will change at high speeds even if the OD is the same.

I'd keep it the same at every corner. I thought about this for a while even with M&H radials. Using a 275 up front and a 325 out back with the same diameter wheels.

 

You guys finally motivated me to drop some stuff off at my storage unit today. I took my scale and some pictures with the rest of my crap. Also a pic of the tires when new.

Mickey 305/45R18 street et R on 18x9.5 v-rocks. 55.4lbs not sure if thats good or bad for a drag wheel and tire combo.

 

It's lighter than the stock 20's by about 30# at least. I would be curious what a stock 17 and 265 weighs.
