Default stock 318 to a 5.9L 360 stroked to 426?

like the title suggests I am interested in taking my 318 out of my project car even if it is original, pickle it in the corner and drop a magnum 360 stroked to a 426 in it.

Car is a 74 dodge charger.

Opinions on the upgraded swap? anyone running a stroked 360?

i will add more details if there is active knowledgeable people on these engines, but does not seem to be much traction in this forum.

and i can get a pic or two if this gets some traction

Would be a fun swap and probably more fun to drive then the 318.

Sorry I don't know much about Mopar Stroker engines though.

Well going with a 400 stroker as I found an engine trans combo for $400 from a friend of a friend that wanted to help me get the project started. He wouldn't let go of any of the (3) 440s laying next to the (6) 400s...... jerk.

Anyway.

Any shop recommendations in North east Arkansas to get block checked and machine work done?

yeah, actually bought the engine middle of 2020 but then have had two kids and wife wasnt working and added onto the house... now FINALLY back to performance stuff plus she now has a job so hopefully wont take eternity.

Looking at going ahead and getting larger Tbars and replacing all the suspension parts that need it and brakes then it will be down pulling the old engine out and mocking up this one.

Would like to get it checked first to make sure its a good rebuildable one.

Was torn for a while on doing a 470 stroker or 500 or 512.. I would like it streetable but also 500+ ish power goal. Drive 75miles round trip to work at about 65mph and would like to drive this most all spring summer fall

Picture or it didn't happen right.. by the way this is one heavy SOB.. Took 4 of us to grab it and put it on the trailer. Long story.. guy said he had a cherry picker.. got there and he couldn't "get to it"

looks most of it is there.. lol

Will be going to get sonic checked first and making sure I can go 500 or 512.
Then parts from 440 source for the internals
Have the heads checked then redone since I am only looking for around 500-600 Unless I can find a deal on a set of max wedge heads. That could easily help me hit those numbers a little lower in the RPMs or shoot for the 700hp range which I really dont want for a daily. B1 heads could throw me into the 850+ range but then you are talking dropping 20k in powertrain QUICK.

Once I find a shop and have the block checked I can proceed.

Car in question: I pulled seats and carpet to inspect floors, has a little surface rust in the front floor pans but otherwise solid, the trunk pan is too. Not sure body wise what all will need to be done, rockers look decent. I do know that one of the quarters, the passenger door and the hood have some suspect holes in them. Those three may have to be replaced.

Called a couple shops and got a response from only one. This guy cant sonic check it but said that the 400 (although he hasn't done many) are some of the thickest cast. Which I knew.. but still want it checked. This shop is around $400 for machine work and around $500 for assembly which I thought to be backwards. Said if he has to do any additional clearance do to the 512kit then it would be additional $ per hour spent.

It may be frowned upon, you know give him a chance. But I had rather find a shop that has done this combo already to know what they are doing for sure. So hopefully I can get in touch with the two others semi local to me

Wow dodge forums are dead on here.

Went ahead and bought an engine stand and hoist. Buying the motor mounts soon to be able to drop in the big block on the small block k frame.

That means nothing is stopping me from getting suspension ordered for the current k frame. Have not determined what actually needs to be replaced yet but I figure if its a bushing or greaseable joint might as well get new now. Will need to upgrade the tbars to something like a 1.03 or maybe a touch stiffer due to the weight of the larger block. Looking for what size the U code chargers came with since it had the 440 from factory. Honestly just haven't typed into google to try to find that info yet since the PST ones look so good

Have not called any other shops yet, did not really want to ship the block out far. Wanted to be able to drive it to the shop myself. May just end up making a weekend of it and driving far to a good one if I have too. Maybe up to 8 hours one way.
