Seafoam definitely works, I do it to all of my family's vehicles every 15 to 30k as a maintenance service. I did my wife's Toyota Matrix about a month ago and it helped with the cold start tapping we were experiencing. Must have been alot of carbon on the valves that got cleaned up.
I think I mentioned in the GM forums once how I bore-scoped different vehicles that I've worked on, before and after induction services, and how clean the combustion chambers got afterwards. I've used BG (pressurized), GM Top End, and Seafoam and they all seem to do the job well.
