dodge 1/2 ton 4.7 to 6.1
#2
Well, it can be done, the physical swap will be no problem but the PCM will be a bitch... More than likely the tranny for the 6.1 will have to be used or one of the conversions available now ( can you say EXPENSIVE!!!) Til HPTuners comes out for the Dodges, don't hold your breath, on anything being easy there...

ANYTHING can be done, and I mean ANYTHING. Now, it is whether you want to spend the money and time to do it, is the REAL question. I have done swaps from Carb cars to FI. Bigger motors in place of smaller motors and smaller motor's in place of bigger motors, 4WD into 2WD and 2WD into 4WD.
The wiring (PCM and harness would be the hardest part, and most time consuming) The 6.1 will call for a different harness and PCM, so you best bet would be too grab a 6.1, tranny, and wiring harness/PCM out of the same wreck, and transfer it over to your 4.7 truck.
The reason your 4.8 to 6.0 was so simple is the motor is the same (albeit, bigger, but the same)
The 4.7 and the 6.1 are completely different motor's.
It would be like taking a 6.0 and putting it into a 97 1/2 ton Chevy with a Vortec 350 in it.
But it CAN be done. DO not let anyone tell you otherwise.
My current projects:
A 5.7 Hemi into my wife's Jeep GC (4.7 HO) once I get her a bigger SUV, as with 1 kid, the GC is fine, but now we have a second on the way, and the Jeep is not big enough for all of us.
Cummins Turbo Diesel into a 71 Challenger.
My CTD has a stick in it, and I will be placing an Auto in it in the near future, as well as a S110 Rear End from a 450/550 4500/5500 truck, and I am converting it from 2WD to 4WD. The frame will be boxed and lengthend with added bracing as well. The cab will be "stretched" for the some added room in the back seat area, not quite as big as a Mega Cab, but bigger than the Regular Quad Cab. I figure if I am going to keep the CTD until the rest of my days, might as well make it into my dream truck. Will I get to it? Maybe when I retire, but not now.
The Auto is going in soon though, in the next 6 months to a year.

the transmission will bolt up fine and bg can flash your 4.7 pcm with 6.1 software. It isnt too hard. Call Dave at bgchrysler.com and ask about it. www.powerported.com is selling the 6.1 crate motors for $5995.
