Back fire ???
#1
My Grandfather has a 95 Dodge with a 5.9, think it is a 2500? Not really up on my dodges that much. But when he hauls his camper it gets a back fire...and only when he huals it. So far he has replaced that cats...now the repair shop is saying that he needs to replace his fuel pump and get a flowmaster. WTF I think that the shop is trying to just scam him.

you can get a fuel pressure guage at Autozone for about $25 for fuel injection, test the fuel pressure and check it against spec... dirty fuel injectors might cause it ( this thing is fuel injected right? ). Do a compression test, verify that there are no leaky intake valves, check the rotor and distributor cap for tiny cracks that can cause crossfire....
if the shop has not done any of these tests.... walk out.....

They checked fuel pressure, and it was good...go figure they still want to change the pump. I told him not to go back. Its fuel injected. I mean this truck only has 52k on it. There is no reason this thing needs to be having this kind of work done on it. I'm gonna check the cap and rotor when I'm up there in the next couple weeks. One of the other Grand kids changed his plugs but I'm not sure on their skills. More to come later on.
