so i got a call to help a friend with his 99 3500 5.9 24v 4x4. he drove it home shut it down and it wont start now. the lift pump is running like it should. i have yet to check the pressure at the injection pump. will do that in the morning. fuel filter is new and i have fuel pressure at the injectors. now here is where i am fearing the vp44 failure. i have codes p1688 death code, p0253 injection pump fuel valve open circuit, and p0251 injection pump mechanical failure fuel valve feedback circuit. please tell me the vp44 isnt dead. i dont feel like shelling out 1000 bucks. i told this guy i would fix it if he gave my wife one of his horses.

 

It maybe the asd relay. It kills the ignition. Tell him get a new relay and try that. The relay in the engine compartment it be liable ASD.l

 

i have another 24 valve cummins that doesnt run on the farm ill swap the relay and see. if the vp44 died i shouldnt be getting fuel at the injectors should i?

 

Asd. Kill everything when you get up and run you to need check cel there's might be something wrong.with the asd. Bad motor will turn over but won't start but will turn over and click change the relay no more the 10 bucks and try

 

ill swap them tomorrow. the other cummins runs but blew out the throw out bearing so it wont go any where.
