Default New toy: 1992 454 SS White/Gray

Just thought I would post up about my new toy I purchased this past Friday. I have been looking for about 6 months for a new play toy since I sold my 02 Z06 this past July 4th weekend. Was pretty open to different vehicles, I was looking for something to put a 454 H.O. crate motor that I have had for years into. Its a nice fresh motor that has been sitting mothballed for way to long, also have a good 4 spd tranny or a fresh 4L80E that I have laying around also. I was looking for a 67-70 Camaro, 67-70 Chevelle, 67-72 Chevy/GMC SWB truck, or a 90-93 454 SS.

I ran across this 1992 454 SS last Tuesday on Craigslist and quickly made the phone call. Was one of the first couple of people to call about it, the owner was lowballed by one of the first callers. We talked for 45 mins or so and turned out the older gentleman was super cool and very honest about the trucks condition from front to back. He put me in touch with the previous owner who knew more details on the mods made to the truck. We quickly struck a deal and I took a day of vacation Friday and my friend and myself made a banzai 23 hour round trip to northern Oklahoma and brought it home to Bridge City, Tx.

The truck is a 1992 and is Summit White/ Gray interior and has 75K miles on it. Been repainted once and has a few mods done to it, which most are things I would have done anyway. Its lowered 4"/6" which I would have not gone quite that far, but its done nicely with BellTech components and rides very good compared to what I expected. Has an Edelbrock 2162 camshaft, rebuilt TB and spacer, JBA shorty headers with 2.5" true duals/Hooker mufflers and exiting behind each rear wheel. Has Eagle alloy 20x8" front and 20x9.5" in the rear with Nitto rubber. Fresh window tint and new spray in bed liner, new door rubbers and felts, body side moldings. When the cam change was done it received new gaskets on the upper end as well as new sensors on the engine and fresh water pump.

Everything on the truck works as it should, overall the truck is in really pretty nice shape. I'm well pleased with it. I have had several 90 454 SS trucks in the past 20 years, but have always wanted a 91-93 model. Near future plans are to swap in the 454 H.O. built up to around 500-550 HP and put a 3000-3200 converter and get a drag pack built from a set of factory wheels that I bought yesterday. Want to make it a nice quick yet drivable street truck.

Here are a few pics from yesterday after cleaning it up some from the road trip.

Truck is in tremendous condition for the age. I like the square body.

Thanks guys. I have always liked these old trucks since they came out. Just a shame that Chevrolet dropped the ball by not putting any decent heads on the engines where they could breathe. They are not fast at all in factory form, but are just cool for what they are.

I'm not sure what they weigh, but will find out this weekend when I weigh it on some scales at my friends work place. It should run a little better when I double the factory HP rating

The truck was not priced too badly, but the nice ones still bring a pretty fair price for being 20+ years old. They only made 1300 and some odd in 1992, so they are not nearly as plentiful as the 90 models.

A white/grey 454ss! Those are pretty rare and hard to find in that combo. I'd love to have white or red/grey 92-93 one of these days.
