Default drive way restoration

Yesterday I started tearing down the front end of my 89 c1500. It is regular cab with a long bed. I needed the long bed for my motorcycle (Yamaha R6) when I go to a track.

The engine is a ZZ4 topped with a Holley, I still have a hot cam kit and 1.6 rockers laying around since I bought them back in 2008. Also have a Pro Torque converter that I will install while I'm at it. I will pull the engine to replace the motor mounts and address some rust on the frame. I would also like to convert to EFI but that might come later. Not a budget issue but time, I'd like to go to races again around April next year so it should be back on the road by then.

-The steering box will be replaced, not sure yet if it will be another box or a rack.
-Engine mounts are torn, I have polyurethane mounts ready.
-Redo brake lines as they are rusty
-Ceramic coating is coming off the headers, have to let them recoat

This is what has to be done before spring, if I have time left I would also want to do:
-efans (I have no cooling issues but the flex-a-lite is noisy)
-I have a 96 interior with power windows
-box the frame

I only started tearing down but not sure where it will end. I will add some pictures tonight when I'm at home, still need to resize them....

Currently pretty stock truck, lowered 2-4 with dropped spindles and shackles. 17" Boyd Coddington Rodders

Roll pan with fog lights and reflectors (both requirded by law).

No rust on the body but underneath....

Bagged and labeled everything

Needs to be replaced, too much play

ZZ4, ready to be pulled

Updates will only come after the weekends. I have to do it all on my driveway as it doesn't fit in my garage. Well actually it does but I can't open the doors or close the gate.

Some stuff I did last year, had most parts of the front suspension zinc plated. Had to replace the bushings anyway....

Weekend has gone by and I couldn't do much on the truck. Yesterday I had to paint my office and today it was pouring rain and a there was strong wind.

The only thing I did was trying to measure/calculate where the rack should come. In between the showers I was able to take some measurements.

With the help of this article I made a drawing in sketchup.

The blue dots are the joints, they are fixed so the exact position of the red dot had to be found. Starting from the intersection of the upper & lower control arm a line was drawn through the tie rod end of the spindle. Where this line intersects with the plane of the inner mounts, is where the joint of the rack and tie rod should come.

Nice exhaust pipes but those import mufflers have to go. They dont belong on a chevy truck.

I agree with your comment, it is not a ricer but without these mufflers, the sound is really terrible. Not too loud, just a not so nice sound coming through a pipe.
First I was thinking of getting Supertraps but these were much cheaper and stainless.

Good luck with rebuild.

no worries, it isn't oil but just water from the radiator.

It's not a Ford!

Is it possible to change the tachometer and the face also to have a 6K rpm tach?

I now have a diesel gauge cluster
