Default 95 engine into 89 silverado

I have a 1995 chevy silverado thats on its last legs. Its 2wd has a 350 and an automatic transmission. I have a chance to pickup a 1989 chevy swb 4x4. It has the transmission and the transfer case along with all of the wiring it just needs a motor. I was told that in 1995 they have obd2 instead of obd1 and was wondering what all i would need to swap over from an 1989-1994 engine to the 1995 350 to fit right into the 1989 chevy? Thank you

The 95 is a drop in. 96 was the switch to OBD 2 and the CSFI Vortec engines. 95 is still a toilet bowl injected turd like the 89. The only difference wiring wise will be the throttle body itself as the 95 will have a different throttle position sensor than the 89.... but you can just swap the plugs since you have the 95 to cut it off of. The 95's TBI also will not have the linkage to hook up the TV cable on the 700R4 that is no doubt in the 89. But that is pick and pull junkyard stuff. Otherwise its a simple swap. Most missing pieces if anything can be salvaged off your 95.

So i can just get a tbi off of an 89-94 chevy pickup and just bolt and go? I will eventualy go either carbed or mpfi but at the moment i just want it running so i can drive it around . I also dont want to do any wiring right now hence the plug/bolt and go thing im after.

No not really. 93 and 94 1/2 tons are 4L60E's as well so the same as 1995. Up through 1991 had the old style throttle position sensor and if so equipped would have the 700r4 linkage. 1992 does as well but has the new style round throttle position sensor like your 95. There are exceptions but that is a loose guide to use. Any 4.3/5.0/5.7 throttle body base is the same as well making your search a bit easier. You can just swap your 95's injector pod on whatever you buy to keep the correct injector size.

1987-1991 throttle bodies from a truck with a 700R4 is all you need.
