To start out, this thread is for my pops and his little toy. He has a 1987 silverado and it's had some select pieces shaved, rear wheel wells have been "stretched/widened", lowered, 15x12 weld racing wheels in the rear, new upholstery, new custom paint job....etc....It's pretty badass. I'm gunna have to have him send me some pics so I can post. But he's nearing the time where the engine must get done because he has the stock 305 in there. He's running out of stuff to "complete" this truck. I believe he has a built 700R4 in there that will chirp those rear meats on the 1-2 shift. I'm trying to convice him into swapping a semi-built 6.0L in there. He wants to retain the reliability factor and also wants to be able to pass CA smog. I've tried searching but had no luck. Does anyone know what is involved in swapping a "newer" engine into an older truck that is not smog exempt? Is it possible in CA?
Also, how hard would it be to swap in a 6.0L? Engine,tranny, wiring harness/computer, and other electrical lines? Any other opinions on what engine would be good in this truck? He has money to drop, it's just a matter of what engine....and mainly CA laws.....Any help here?
