Default 04 ls vortec in a 98

im going to be putting a motor from an 04 chevy pick up and possibly supercharging it and putting it in my 98 k1500 with a vortec 305 and the 4l60e trans i've heard that my trans wont bolt up and i've heard it will i cant find pictures or anything about it. i know it will blow with that much power even if it will bolt but im more concerned about putting a newer 4l80e trans in it. will it bolt to my t case and is my drive shaft length ok or will i need a new one. would a newer 4l80e trans bolt in ok. i dont know which motor it is but its an 04 and has 385 horses. any help is appreciated websites, knowledge, pictures, anything just want to do it right thanks for the help

I can't think of what engine would have 385 hp in 04. I'm not sure what at LQ9 has but didn't think it was that much... anyways.. Your 4L60E will work fine with a LS based engine, you will need a spacer plate and longer bolts for your flex plate, you can get these from a LQ4 or LQ9, so depending on what engine you have, you may have the spacer.

If you going the distance to put the SC on it, I would just have your 4L60E rebuilt to withstand the power, then you don't have to do anything with your drive shafts, linkages, wires etc.. And this would probably save you head ache and money in the long run.

Good luck with it!

do you happen to know if there is a case size dif. between the 4l60e and 4l80e from the same year say as in i find a 4l80e from a 98 or close and put it in with the spacer and new motor would it slide right in with maybe a little mod to the trans mount or the one from the truck with the 4l80e

60E and 80E are completely different cases, as well as output shafts. The X member would need to be unbolted and slid back to go from a 60E to an 80E.

Just be sure to educate your self as best you can, read read read! Asking questions is good, but some of the questions you are asking tells me you have not done much of this. So your doing the right things. Ask a LOT! and read everything on here you can, as well as LS1Tech.com
