Now that Indiana has just been blanketed with around 7" of snow, I'm very thankful that I have a 4x4. My 38 mile trek to work is much easier now that I'm driving my truck and not the 'bird.
Now if all the compact cars would just get out of my way

4wd drive does suck for playing around but thats what that little on/off switch is for.
It feels great pulling away from the sheep in their 2wd cars and mini vans. This is my first 4x4 since about 1989, all my other chevy trucks were 2wd, you just had to have about 250-350lbs of sand bags in the back and some good tires to cut through the snow with.

I have a 1997 2wd reg cab short box truck, this is my 1st year with a G80 locking rear and traction is much better. i run real snow tires and I can get around pretty good.
All season tires are really meant for 3 seasons, spring, summer and fall. In the winter, they pale in comparison to snow tires.
I just put a set of Bridgestoe Blizzaks on a friends Saab fwd and that car is unstoppable in the snow and ice, in 2nd gear you have to put her to the boards to get it to spin the front tires inthe snow. They are the softest tires I have seen, they even seem softer than my 325/50 BFG drag radials.
