Have an of you guys in the OKC area herd of this shop, E. T. 9.9 Motor Sports?
He says he has been building race engines for like 42 years. His name is Terry Cooper. He says that he has a 5.3 with a 4L80E that he will sell me and drop in my truck for a good price. He also said that he can install a new cam, and do dome head work to get some extra ponys out of it. Just want to know if he is a good place to take my truck. Also what do you guys think about me doing the 5speed to 4L80E swap??? Is it a smart move?
Thanks

Well first of all, does he even know what's involved in swapping to a 4l80e?
What is he quoting you for all this? He may or may not know what he's doing, but if you get a bill for 10 grand you may find yourself a bit pissed.

He said some where around $2,000 for the whole thing depending on how much the cam and what not cost. And a little military discount doesn't hurt anything either. It would be quite a bit more, but I will be giving him my motor and trans if he does the swap. He said for the 4l80e swap I will need a new harnes, witch he has. And possbley a new drive shaft. I will talk to him and find out ezactley what he is going to do to do the 4l80e swap. Of course if he doesn't sound like he knows what he is talking about I wont go to him. If I get a collum shifter for the automatic, what the hell am I going to do with the hole in my floor?? Is a floor shifter the way to go in this case?
Edit: He said that he can do all of the tuning also.

He has NO idea what he's getting himself into. A stock 5.3L with all accessories and a stock 4l80e would run about $1500 if he got a SMOKING deal on both. Much less if he added a cam, heads, all the wiring accessories, adaptors, driveshaft etc to do the 4l80e swap.
Parts alone, if he's getting good stuff will run well over $3000 to do it right.

He got the motor and trans from a truck that he did a duramax converson on. So that is where he got all of the wiring also. He will call me tomorow with the final quote. Like I said, if it turs out he is a moron I woun't go to him. I don't want to deal with any kind of BS out of anybody. All of the stuff came out of a 2004 yukon, it has 43,000 miles on it.

I'm sure you could get one of the knowledgeable people close by the area from PT.net to talk to the guy if you have any reason for concern. Always good to get as much info as possible and get it done right than spend a buch of money to have it done wrong. It sounds like a damn good deal. If he has been around for a while and is really that good he should have a reputation and somebody will have heard of him.
I would think if he can prove he really put a duramax in a yukon and it runs, that he has the knowledge to do your swap... Duramax swap would be a lot more work than a V6 to V8 swap.
