Default Thermometers

jfhv;jqehr;jhqrtn4;vqouin54uygyt4vffffffuuuuuuuuuu I destroy probes. I over heat them all the time. What is a good probe set up that will handle 300* - 500* oven/grill temps. Not paying 100 freaking dollars or more would be nice...but I guess to get a specialty probe I'll have to, you think?

This is the most recent one I have. I bought it because reviews say it can handle 396*. The problem I have is sometimes the grill creeps on me when using the gas side (I know I know) and creeps to 400*-450* (which I am okay with in those particular cooking scenarios). POOF, dead thermometer probe.

ThermoWorks Original Oven Thermometer / Timer. Classic design and simplicity at a GREAT price.

I might add...it's the cable that is the issue I am assuming. Thermoworks says the cable is rated to 500* short term, but I'll be damned.

Dewey I have been through I can not tell you how many cable style probes because of either heat or water. I currently use a Redi check ET 73 and the pit probe died a while back. Made it maybe a year and half but then again I use the **** out of my equipment. When I ordered ET 73 I did order an extra meat probe so I could use it on more than one cut of meat in the smoker and just use the smoker port. This digital remote has worked well but the range advertised sucks and is not what is advertised IMO. They have received many complaints and some guys figured out ways to mod these units to increase the reception.

Well they finally came out with the new improved model and the reviews I have seen on the cooking forums have been pretty good. It is the ET 732 found here. Maverick ET-732 Remote Smoker Thermometer | Backyard and BBQ I will be ordering some new probes for my old ET73 but when I do I'm definitely ordering the new one as well! I also want to get a thermapen pocket thermometer when grilling food for a quick check type of probe. ThermoWorks - Splash-Proof Thermapen Thermometer

Hope this helps. Vince

I forgot to mention it does help to wrap your wires in foil to add some extra insulation when using them on gas grills or near the heat source in a smoker.
