G80? Is your truck gasoline?

It should. The 2003 should be a full float 14 bolt 10" axle. GT-4 is a 3.73 I think. Is that what your truck has?

However, the 8.1 and 6.6TD had the same axle, but a 11.5" ring gear version. It's still a direct swap, but I believe the yoke is different.

Neither truck is a cab-and-chassis, correct? Those axles are narrower due to frame differences compared to pick-ups.

Ok, then you need the 11.5" axle.

A long time ago I found somewhere the GM axle ratings, I think it was on a diesel forum?

IIRC, the 10.5" rating was around 5,500 ft-lb vs 11.5" around 7,000 ft-lb. Something like that.

Folks have claimed the 10.5" is pretty stout because of the pinion pilot bearing, while the 11.5" doesn't have that. Can't comment on that. And I believe the axles are the same spline count for both?

That's not here nor there. Get yourself an 11.5" axle for a direct swap. What happened to your axle BTW?

Damn it. I just wrote a novel on what happened and was going to post and it just disapeered! Anyway the leading edges on the ring gear teeth have been chewed up a bit. Everything else the spiders it all looks pristin. Ring gear comes out tomorrow and I got my money on the pinion bearing.
