What type of fluid do the Allison transmissions use? My Dad wants to change his filter and was wondering. It doesn't say in the supplemental Duramax book.
Thanks

The Allison is a factory fill with Dex III. You can also go with the full synthetic fluid from Allison, Transynd. Good stuff, but expensive. Also helps to have a trans pump done on it to clear the converter and lines.
I run just plain ol Dex III in my race Ally's. Change early and often. I have not had a lick of trouble with that method even beating on it with 700 horsepower.
