Default Mechanical gauges on a 8.1, where??

Well, I am planning on reusing my old mechanical gauges from a prior Jeep build and am rather partial to them. Especially considering how much new gauges cost.

Anyway, I am about to FINALLY fire up the 8.1 that I have put into my rock buggy and want to be able to make sure that all is good. Since so many of the fasteners on this motor are metric and the fact that I have no clue, just where are you or can you mount the mechanical water temp and oil pressure sensor? I see two electrical sending units (1 on each side) that are mounted just under the manifolds. What are they? Could I replace one of them with the oil pressure sending piece?

On the other hand, EVERYTHING on this motor is controlled by the computer which requires a sensor. So if I replaced 2 of my gauges to electrical, then all I would have to run would be small, lightweight wires to the computer versus routing cumbersome tubes. Decisions decision.

I know my way all around a carburated jeep motor but I am at a considerable loss when it comes to this. My google skills have brought the suckage so I am asking here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

OMalley

the temp sensor you will have to keep using but you have a hole on the other head
the oil pressure sensor you can remove. but you can also tap into above oil filter and they are normal pipe fittings.

got any other 8.1 questions shoot me an email

I own 5 now

Post Aftermarket Upgrades

I see you said you have 5 of them. I only have one but I've owned it since new in my 03 2500HD . All I've done to it was Gibson headers (that's all I could find in 03)Gibson cat-back exhaust, and K&M cold air intake.I really would like to do some engine upgrades but there just not out there where I can find them. I would do a supercharge or something like that but you know there not there. Who can reprogram my PCM , I do have the Hypertech tuner but to me that's worthless and a waste of my money.Any suggestions?
