Help. Cam swap.
Hey guys, Imma be doin my first cam swap on my daily vehicle and I was just curious what I would need to Make this work and finish in one day.

I would start out by making sure you have all the gaskets and seals you need.... I'm kind of a stickler for not reusing stuff.... I would get a new seal for the timing cover also. If you are changing your valve springs, get an LS style spring compressor. They are made to do the springs with the head on the motor. I used an adapter from my snap on compression gauge set to access into my spark plug hole and hooked that to my compressor. When the cylinder fills with air, it holds your valves shut and you can change the springs on that cylinder. You'll also need some black silicon for the corners of your timing cover. I'm no expert and I only changed one cam in my 04 Silverado 6.0. Not sure if they changed anything on the new ones compared to my lq4 but that is what I needed.

10. something to hold the valves up
11. valve spring tool
12. camshaft lube
When I had my cam put in my 5.3, my buddy had the old cam out in 30 minutes. It's really not that hard to do. The springs are more tedious but he was done in about 4.5 hours with multiple breaks/phone calls.

A heat gun, to heat the tensioner up and a pin to hold it back so you can get the chain back on.... Are you keeping or deleting the vvt?? In any gen iv engine look at the cam bearings and if you see any wear plan to replace them!!! They have had issues with shearing off the cam locator in the vvt actuator and spinning cam bearings....
Alot of howtos say to pull the oil pump, if youre reusing the stock chain not necessary....
